Cyclone "Michaung" may make landfall b/w AndhraPradesh – North TamilNadu coast with highest probability near Nellore

A Well-marked low-pressure area formed over South East Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify further into a Depression by today evening. It is predicted to move towards West Northwest direction for next 2 days. This depression is likely to intensify further into a Deep Depression by tomorrow over South-East and adjoining South-West Bay of Bengal.


There have been 2 different predictions:

  • As per ECMWF forecast, this system should intensify and move closer to North Tamilnadu and South AP coast by 02nd December. Hence, it will hit North Chennai as a Deep Depression in coming 2 days and cross coast near South AP and moving northward. If this happens, many areas of Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh shall receive extremely heavy rainfall in coming 2-3 days.
  • Whereas, GFS is taking a recurve by passing through the coastal areas of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and taking it to North Bay of Bengal.
 

According to BKC Aggregators prediction, this system will intensify as a Cyclone Michaung and move towards North Tamilnadu coast near Chennai to Nellore/Tirupati in coming 2-3 days. Then it will move along the coast from South to Central Andhrapradesh. However, moderate rainfall is likely over Tamilnadu on 03rd December, wheareas heavy rains is predicted from 4th December in many areas of Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh areas like Srikakulam, Viziznagram, Vishskapatnam, Guntur, Krishna, Godavari etc.

Some areas of Telangana are also likely to be affected with moderate rains.

Farmers of Andhra Pradesh are advised to store harvested crops immediately as cyclone likely to effect and Fishermen are advised not to venture into Bay of Bengal for coming 5- 6 days.

A Western Disturbance is been seen on the Himalayas. Due to this, scattered moderate to heavy rainfall or snowfall with thunderstorms is possible over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad and Himachal Pradesh for next 2 days.

Light isolated rainfall is likely over Eastern Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Madhya Pradesh.

No weather activity likely over parts of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand etc.

Chickpea Crop Status in Rajasthan

During this Rabi Season, Chickpea has been sown in about 12.35 lakh ha area till 17 th December against the targeted area of 14.50 lakh ha. In this report we have collated the field information, analysis carried out by ‘metGIS ® ’ for Chickpea crop and current weather conditions in several districts of Rajasthan. In Bikaner , the cumulative growth index of chickpea in the district is 1807 when sowing was commenced during 43 rd week of the year. The growth index indicates flowering stage of the crop.  The relative humidity during the growth period has been between 44 and 76 percent. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging around 31 o C and minimum temperature is around 12 o C. Mustard Sowing Begins in Rajasthan

On the onset of Rabi Season, farmers are planning to start sowing of Mustard. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are major growers of Mustard in the country. According to Solvent Extractors’ Association of India, during 2014-15 Rabi Season, area under cultivation of Mustard was 65.17 lakh ha in the country which was 8.62% less than 2013-14. As per the SEA, in 2014-15, total acreage in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat was reduced 13.40%, 18.55% and 31.56% respectively as compared to 2013-14 season. Only Uttar Pradesh has registered a growth of 7% in total acreage.
