Likely Rain During This Weekend over Gujarat : Better Groundnut Prospect

During this Kharif Season, total area covered under Groundnut in Gujarat is about 12.96 lakh ha with the increase of about 71 thousand ha previous Kharif Season (DOA, Gujarat, 07th Sept. 2015). The crop is in seed formation stage. Deficient rainfall in some districts prolonged upto 5 crop-weeks. During these crucial weeks for plant growth, resource-poor farmers could not apply appropriate irrigation which would resulted into lower yield.  However, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in the state during next few days.

We at WeatherSys monitor Groundnut crop growth on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report we have collected the ground information from several districts in Gujarat.

In Amreli, total area under the Groundnut crop during this season is about 1.02 lakh ha. The district has witnessed 5 rainfall deficient crop-weeks (August) during vegetative growth.  However, the district has received good rainfall recently. Presently, the crop is at pod formation stage and no pest or disease has been reported.  WeatherSys predicts moderate rainfall over the district during 19th to 21st September.
