Mustard Crop in Punjab: Status Update

The mustard acreage in Punjab has reached about 40 thousand ha till January 27th which is nearly 33 percent higher than last year.  Currently, the crop has attained pod formation and pod filling has started. In this report we have collated the field information, analysis carried out by ‘metGIS ®’ for mustard crop and current weather conditions in several districts of Punjab.
In Amritsar, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 1207 when sowing was commenced during 45th week of the year. The growth index indicates flowering and pod formation stage of the crop.  As per the ground information, the crop has been irrigated at least two time. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging around 22oC and minimum temperature is around 4oC. As per the Weather Sys forecast, light rainfall would occur over the district during next 24 hrs.

In Ferozpur, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 1300 when sown during 45th week of the year. The growth index indicates that the crop is at pod formation or pod filling stage. As per the field information, the crop have been irrigated two times at least.  No major incidence of pest or disease has been reported as of now.  Currently, maximum temperature is hovering around 22oC and minimum temperature is settling at around 8oC. As per the meteogram, no rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.
In Muktsar, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 1382 which indicates completion of flowering and beginning of pod filling stage of the crop.  As per the ground information, the crop is in good state and irrigated two times. Farmers are using their own irrigation sources. Currently, the day temperature in the district is around 24oC and night temperature is around 8oC. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall in the district during next seven days.
