Status of Chickpea Crop Growth in Karnataka

The Growth Index calculated by metGIS indicates that flowering has started in Chickpea crop at many places in Karnataka considering 46th week of the year as beginning of sowing of the crop. During this Rabi season, the increased MSP and high prices amidst low supplies has encouraged farmers to plant Chickpea.  For 2015-16, the MSP for Chickpea is Rs 3425/qntl which is the increase of Rs 250 and about 8% over MSP of Rs 3175/qntl during 2014-15.

In Dharwad, the growth index of chickpea crop sown during 45th Week of the year is 974 which indicates that crop is at flowering stage. Presently, average day temperature is around 30oC and night temperature is around 16oC. The relative humidity is between 59 to 76%. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days.
In Raichur, as per the growth index of 1031, chickpea crop is mostly in flowering stage. Presently, day temperature is a round 33oC which is 2-3 degree higher than normal and night temperature is around 17oC. The relative humidity is ranging between 48 to 78%. There has been no rainfall in the district during this month. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected and weather is likely to be warm and dry with clear sky.
