Status of Chickpea Crop Growth in Karnataka

The Growth Index calculated by metGIS indicates that flowering has started in Chickpea crop at many places in Karnataka considering 46th week of the year as beginning of sowing of the crop. During this Rabi season, the increased MSP and high prices amidst low supplies has encouraged farmers to plant Chickpea.  For 2015-16, the MSP for Chickpea is Rs 3425/qntl which is the increase of Rs 250 and about 8% over MSP of Rs 3175/qntl during 2014-15.
We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast on day to day basis and arrive at a ‘growth index’ district wise. In this report, we have collated information on Chickpea growth in several districts of Karnataka.
In Bagalkot, the growth index of 966 indicates flower initiation in the chickpea. Presently, day temperature is around 32oC and night temperature is around 17oC. The relative humidity is ranging between 45 to 83%. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected.
In Bijapur, as per the growth index of 966, chickpea crop is mostly in flowering stage. Presently, day temperature is around 33oC which is 2-3 degree higher than normal and night temperature is around 16oC. The relative humidity is ranging between 45 to 83%. No rainfall is expected during next seven days and weather is likely to be warm and dry with clear sky.

In Dharwad, the growth index of chickpea crop sown during 45th Week of the year is 974 which indicates that crop is at flowering stage. Presently, average day temperature is around 30oC and night temperature is around 16oC. The relative humidity is between 59 to 76%. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days.
In Raichur, as per the growth index of 1031, chickpea crop is mostly in flowering stage. Presently, day temperature is a round 33oC which is 2-3 degree higher than normal and night temperature is around 17oC. The relative humidity is ranging between 48 to 78%. There has been no rainfall in the district during this month. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected and weather is likely to be warm and dry with clear sky.
In Gadag, the growth index of 974 indicates flower initiation in the chickpea. Presently, day temperature is around 32oC and night temperature is around 18oC. The relative humidity is ranging between 45 to 83%. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected and weather is likely to be warm and dry on a clear sky.

Chickpea Crop Status in Rajasthan

During this Rabi Season, Chickpea has been sown in about 12.35 lakh ha area till 17 th December against the targeted area of 14.50 lakh ha. In this report we have collated the field information, analysis carried out by ‘metGIS ® ’ for Chickpea crop and current weather conditions in several districts of Rajasthan. In Bikaner , the cumulative growth index of chickpea in the district is 1807 when sowing was commenced during 43 rd week of the year. The growth index indicates flowering stage of the crop.  The relative humidity during the growth period has been between 44 and 76 percent. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging around 31 o C and minimum temperature is around 12 o C. Mustard Sowing Begins in Rajasthan

On the onset of Rabi Season, farmers are planning to start sowing of Mustard. Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are major growers of Mustard in the country. According to Solvent Extractors’ Association of India, during 2014-15 Rabi Season, area under cultivation of Mustard was 65.17 lakh ha in the country which was 8.62% less than 2013-14. As per the SEA, in 2014-15, total acreage in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat was reduced 13.40%, 18.55% and 31.56% respectively as compared to 2013-14 season. Only Uttar Pradesh has registered a growth of 7% in total acreage.
