Harvesting of Urad Crop in Maharashtra Likely to Begin in Mid-September
WeatherSys has gathered ground information of the Urad crop
and associated weather in below mentioned districts of Maharashtra. Deficient
rainfall in the key pulses growing regions of Marathwada has impacted the total
acreage under the crop.
In Nashik, sowing of Urad commenced in
June beginning after first Monsoon rainfall.
Presently, seed formation in the crop has almost completed and its
harvesting would begin from second week of September. As per meteogram, about
50 mm rainfall was received in the district during last 10 days and no
significant rainfall is expected in next seven days.

In Jalgaon, sowing of Urad was started in June beginning. The crop will be ready for harvesting in 1-2 weeks. There are very few farmers with their own
irrigation facilities in the district. The
district falls in the Marathwada region which is rain deficit this season by about
50 percent. There has been no significant rainfall during last 10 days. As per meteogram produced by metGIS_Agro®, no
significant rainfall is likely during next seven days in the district.
Sowing
of Urad was started in June-end in the Nanded
district. The crop is in seed formation stage from mid-August and its
harvesting is expected to start from mid-September. A moderate rainfall would
be beneficial for the crop at this stage.
As per meteogram produced by metGIS_Agro®, the district has received
about 36 mm rainfall during last 10 days and no significant rainfall is likely during
next seven days.

In Yavatmal, sowing
of Urad crop was started in July beginning and its harvesting would start from October. The total acreage of Urad in the district is lower
than previous year. Most of the farmers have opted for Urad for intercropping
with soybean and cotton. Non-availability
of market for the crop in the district is one of the reasons behind low acreage.
A good spell of rainfall is required for optimum crop growth. There has been no
significant rainfall from last 15 days and same trend is expected in next seven
days.
