Sesame (Till) in Rajasthan: Fairly Good Crop Expected

WeatherSys has gathered ground information of Sesame (Till) crop and associated weather status in Rajasthan. Sowing of Kharif Sesame in Rajasthan started in the beginning of June and lasted till July end and harvesting period is mid-October-November. The total area under the crop in the state was about 3.61 lakh ha during 2013-14 and total production was about 0.72 lakh tonnes with the yield of 199 kg/ha. At national level, during 2012-13, about 3 lakh tonnes Sesame seed were exported which was about 33 percent of total oilseed export with the total value of Rs. 2881.54 crore.   In Jodhpur , Sesame sowing started in the month of May. Good rainfall distribution this monsoon has been beneficial to the crop growth and farmers are expecting good production. Status of Arhar Crop in Maharashtra

Maharashtra is biggest Arhar (Pigeon Pea) growing state in India.  During this Kharif season, total acreage of Arhar in Maharashtra is 1.03 million ha about 86.6% of the targeted acreage of about 1.12 million ha ( DAO, Maharashtra ). Despite being a drought-tolerant crop, long dry spells during this Monsoon season, has delayed the Arhar crop growth in Marathwada region.  We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast on day to day basis. During this Kharif Season, total area covered under Groundnut in Gujarat is about 12.96 lakh ha with the increase of about 71 thousand ha previous Kharif Season ( DOA, Gujarat, 07 th Sept. 2015 ). The crop is in seed formation stage. Deficient rainfall in some districts prolonged upto 5 crop-weeks.
