Status Update of Mustard Crop in West Bengal

West Bengal contributes about 6 percent of total Mustard and Rapeseed production in India.  During 2014-15, about 4.68 lakh ha area was under mustard cultivation in the West Bengal while this Rabi season 4.66 lakh ha area has been sown with R&M till 23rd December 2015 (SEA of India). Presently, weather conditions are favourable for the growth of Mustard crop. In this report, we have collated the analysis generated by metGIS and field information of Mustard crop in West Bengal. 
In Murshidabad, the growth index of mustard is 1021 which indicates good crop growth when sown during 47th week of the year. As per the ground information, pod formation has started and harvesting is expected to be commenced from mid-Feb. The RH during the growth period has been between 63 and 78 percent. Currently, the day temperature is ranging around 25oC and night temperature is around 13oC. The district has not received any significant rainfall since last 15 days. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days and weather is likely to remain cool and dry. 
In South 24 Parganas, the growth index of mustard is 2054 when sown during 41st week of the year. As per the field information, many farmers started sowing in December. However, as per the growth index, the crop is in reproductive stage. The relative humidity during growth period has been between 63 and 78 percent. Presently, maximum temperature is around 28oC and minimum temperature is around 14oC. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected in the district. 
In Nadia, mustard growth index of 1926 indicates good crop growth when sown during 41st week of the year.  As per the ground information, the crop is at pod formation stage and harvesting is expected to begin from February. During the growth period, the RH has been between 59 to 80 percent. At present, the max temperature is around 27oC and min temperature is around 14oC. The district has not received any significant rainfall from last 15 days and no rainfall is expected during next seven days.
