Wheat Crop in Bihar: A Status Update

As per the ground information, the wheat crop in Bihar is in flowering to dough stages. This is the time when abiotic stresses like high temperature or drought affects the yield of the crop adversely. Thus, the crop need to be irrigated according to the prevailing weather conditions. In this report, we have collated the analysis carried out by the metGIS®, ground information and current weather conditions in several wheat growing districts of Bihar.

In Rohtas, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2056 when sown during 45th week of the year. The growth index indicates that the crop is at flowering to dough stage. As per the ground information, the crop growth is good and has been irrigated at least four times. The production is expected to be higher than the last year. Currently, maximum temperature is hovering around 33oC and minimum temperature is settling at around 15oC. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected in the district.

In Patna, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2037 which indicates flowering to maturity of the crop.  As per the growth index, higher production is expected this year as compared to last year. Currently, the day temperature in the district is around 32oC and night temperature is around 17oC. WeatherSys predicts no significant rainfall in the district during next seven days.

In Muzaffarpur, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2042 when sowing was started during 45th week of the year. According to growth index, the crop is in flowering and maturity stages. As compared to last year, the higher growth index suggests higher production this year. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 32oC and minimum temperature is around 18oC.  As per the meteogram, no rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.

In East Champaran, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2024 which indicates flowering to dough stage of the crop.  On the basis of growth index, higher production is expected this year as compared to last year. Currently, the day temperature is around 33oC and night temperature is around 18oC. No rainfall is likely in the district during next seven days as per the meteogram.

In Buxar, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2051 when sowing was started during 45th week of the year. According to growth index, the crop is from flowering to maturity stages. It also suggests higher production as compared to last year. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 33oC and minimum temperature is around 18oC. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected in the district.
