Madhya Pradesh Farmers Harvesting Mustard Crop

According to Solvent Extractors’ Association of India, about 6.23 lakh ha area in Madhya Pradesh has been sown with mustard this Rabi season.  The crop is currently matured and farmers are harvesting their crop. In some districts, the harvesting is already completed. Thunderstorm with hailstorm during last week has not affected the crop extremely. However, there are mixed reactions on the expected production of mustard.  Currently, the prices of mustard in the market is some upward till the arrivals of new harvest.
In Gwalior, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth index of mustard is 2072 which indicates that crop is almost in maturity stage. As per the ground information, farmers have already started harvesting of the crop which was sown during mid-October. Farmers are expecting lower production due to dry winter.  Currently, the max temperature in the district is ranging around 33oC and min temperature is around 17oC.  WeatherSys predicts light rainfall during 12th and 13th March.

In Morena, the growth index of mustard is 2137 when sown during 45th week of the year. It indicates that the crops has matured. As per the field information, the harvesting has already commenced a couple of days ago. The district has encountered hailstorm on 7th March but no adverse effect has been reported. Presently, the day temperature is hovering around 33oC and night temperature is around 19oC. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected and weather is likely to remain warm.

In Sehore, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth index of mustard is 2354 which depicts maturity of the crop.  However, some farmers are expecting to begin harvesting of their crop within 10-15 days. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging around 34oC and minimum temperature is around 19oC. As per the meteogram, no significant rainfall is likely over the district during next seven days and weather is expected to remain hot and dry.
In Shivpuri, the growth index of mustard is 2119 when sowing was started from 45th week of the year and according to it the crop has matured. As per the ground information, harvesting of the mustard has been started from the beginning of March. Some traces of disease and pests were also observed at several places which could lead to the yield loss. The current maximum temperature in the district is around 34oC and minimum temperature is hovering around 20oC. During next seven days, light rainfall is expected in the district.
