Harvesting of Mustard in Progress in Gujarat
It is observed that Gujarat has narrow
escaped from recent hailstorm and thunderstorms which took place in adjoining
Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra. According to Final Report of
Department of Agriculture, Govt. of Gujarat, Mustard acreage for current Rabi
season has been about 1.90 lakh ha area in the state. According to field
information, about 50 percent of the crop has been harvested. Farmers are expecting
comparatively low production which is mainly attributed to warmer winter. In
this report, we have collated the ground information, current weather and
analysis carried out by our metGIS® software for several top mustard
growing districts of Gujarat.
In Banaskantha,
considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth
index of mustard is 2512 which indicates maturity of the crop. In the district,
Mustard has been sown in 1.21 lakh ha. As per the ground information, the crop is
currently being harvested. Farmers are expecting lower production due to dry
winter. Currently, the max temperature
is ranging around 33oC and min temperature is around 20oC. WeatherSys predicts no significant rainfall
during next seven days.
In Patan,
the growth index of mustard is 2564 when sown during 45th week of
the year. It indicates that the crops is in maturity stage. During this season,
mustard has been sown in about 29 thousand ha area. Presently, the day
temperature is hovering around 33oC and night temperature is around
20oC. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected and weather is
likely to remain warm and dry on a clear sky.
In Mahesana,
considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth
index of mustard is 2496 which depicts maturity of the crop. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging
around 34oC and minimum temperature is around 20oC. As
per the meteogram, no rainfall is expected during next seven days.
In Ahmedabad,
the growth index of mustard is 2534 when sowing was started from 45th
week of the year and according to it the crop has matured. As per the ground
information, at least 50 percent of the crop has been harvested. The current
maximum temperature in the district is around 34oC and minimum temperature
is hovering around 20oC. During next seven days, no rainfall is
expected in the district and weather is likely to remain warm and dry.
