Chickpea Harvesting Commenced in Andhra Pradesh

The harvesting of chickpea has commenced in Andhra Pradesh. Chickpea acreage in the state has reached 4.71 lakh ha this season which was 3.46 lakh ha last year. From the onset of monsoon, Prakasam and Kurnool has received deficient rainfall while Anantpur, Guntur, Kadappa witnessed normal to excess rainfall. In view of the above, higher chickpea production is expected in the state.
In Kurnool, Chickpea has been sown in 2 lakh ha till 2nd March this year which was 1.45 lakh ha during 2014-15 season.  Considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth index of Chickpea is 2642 which indicates maturity of the crop. Current maximum temperature is hovering around 35oC and minimum temperature is around 24oC. No rainfall would occur over the district during next seven days.
In Anantpur, Chickpea acreage has reached about 76 thousand ha till 2nd March which was 68 thousand ha last year. Chickpea growth index is 2556 when sown during 45th week of the year. As per the growth index, the crop growth is good and is at maturity stage. The cumulative rainfall from June 2015 to Feb 2016 has been normal. Currently, max temperature is ranging around 35oC and min temperature is around 23oC.  No rainfall is expected during next seven days.

In Kadapa, about 79 thousand ha area has been covered under the Chickpea sowing which was 68 thousand ha during last Rabi season. Considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of Chickpea is 2461 which indicates maturity of the crop. At present, the max temperature is settling around 33oC and min temperature is around 23oC. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected in the district.

In Prakasham, Chickpea has been sown in 91 thousand ha which is 114% of normal area and was 50.7 thousand ha last season. Chickpea crop has been matured as per the growth index of 2627 when sown during 45th week of the year. As per the growth index, the crop growth is good. Currently, the max temperature is hovering around 33oC and min temperature is around 24oC.  During next seven days, no rainfall is likely to occur over the district and weather is expected to remain warm and dry.

In Guntur, Chickpea acreage has been about 16 thousand ha which was about 9.6 thousand ha during last Rabi season.  Considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the growth index of Chickpea is 2611 which indicates maturity of the crop. Presently, the maximum temperature is hovering around 34oC and minimum temperature is ranging around 23oC.  During next seven days, no rainfall is expected.
