Wheat Crop in Madhya Pradesh: Status Update

The temperature in the northern and central India is gradually increasing after a short span of cold waves. Currently, the wheat crop is at flowering stage and as per the experts no adverse effect of increasing temperature is expected. During this Rabi season, about 51.8 lakh ha area has been sown with wheat in Madhya Pradesh which is less by 6.6 lakh ha compared to last season. In this report we have collated the field information, analysis carried out by ‘metGIS ®’ for wheat crop and current weather conditions in several districts of Madhya Pradesh.

In Hoshangabad, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 2117 when sowing was commenced during 44th week of the year. The growth index indicates heading and flowering stage of the crop.  As per the ground information, the crop has been irrigated at least two time. The Relative Humidity during the growth period has been between 46 to 79%. Currently, the maximum temperature is ranging around 29oC and minimum temperature is around 12oC. As per the Weather Sys forecast, no rainfall is expected over the district during next seven days.

In Gwalior, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 1580 when sown during 46th week of the year. The growth index indicates that the crop is flowering stage. As per the field information, the crop is about 1.5 foot of height and have been irrigated two times at least.  No major incidence of pest or disease has been reported as of now.  The RH during the growth period has been between 52 to 77%. Currently, maximum temperature is hovering around 25oC and minimum temperature is settling at around 10oC. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected in the district.

In Shivpuri, considering the sowing during 46th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 1733 which indicates completion stage of the crop.  As per the ground information, the crop is in good state and irrigated two times. Farmers are using their own irrigation sources. The relative humidity has been between 57 to 77% during the growth period. Currently, the day temperature is around 24oC and night temperature is around 9oC. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall in the district during next seven days.

In Raisen, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 1757 when sowing was started during 46th week of the year. According to growth index, the crop has attained flowering stage and beginning of pod formation.  As per the farmers, no incidence of pest or disease has been observed as of now. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 28oC and minimum temperature is around 13oC. No rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days and weather is likely to remain cool and dry.
In Vidisha, considering the sowing during 46th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of wheat is 1746 which indicates flowering and starting of pod formation stage of the crop.  Farmers of the district also confirm the flowering in the crop and the crop is being irrigated third time. No major incidence of pest or disease has been reported till date.  Presently, the max temperature is around 28oC and min temperature is hovering around 13oC.  During next seven days, no rainfall is expected in the district.
