Harvesting of Mustard Started in West Bengal

With 4.76 lakh ha area under mustard cultivation, West Bengal is currently ranking 5th in major mustard and rapeseed producing state in India. The weather conditions in the state has been comparatively more favorable. The crop is matured in most of the growing area and harvesting is being done.  As per the comparative analysis of growth index in several districts of the state, better yield is expected this year. In this report, we have collated the analysis carried out by the metGIS®, ground information and current weather conditions in several mustard growing districts of West Bengal.
In Bankura, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 2271 when sown during 42nd week of the year. The growth index indicates that the crop has matured. As per the ground information, the crop is good and no incidence of pest or disease has been reported. The relative humidity during the growth period has been between 57 to 81 percent. Currently, maximum temperature is hovering around 35oC and minimum temperature is settling at around 19oC. During next seven days, light rainfall is expected in the district.
In Murshidabad, considering the sowing onwards 42nd week of the year, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 2413 which indicates full maturity of the crop.  The relative humidity has been between 40 and 78 percent during the growth period. Currently, the day temperature is around 32oC and night temperature is around 18oC. WeatherSys predicts moderate rainfall in the district during next seven days.
In Nadia, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 2427 when sowing was started during 42nd week of the year. According to growth index, the crop has reached at maturity stage. As per the ground information, aphids has been observed in the crop at some places. Farmers has already started harvesting. During the growth period, the RH has been between 59 and 80 percent. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 32oC and minimum temperature is around 21oC.  As per the meteogram, moderate rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.

In South 24 Parganas, considering the sowing during 42nd week of the year, the cumulative growth index of mustard is 2595 which indicates maturity of the crop.  The relative humidity has been between 63 and 78 percent during the growth period. Currently, the day temperature is around 34oC and night temperature is around 23oC. Moderate rainfall is likely in the district during next seven days as per the WeatherSys prediction.
