Chickpea Harvesting Begins in Maharashtra

Maharashtra has witnessed significant increase in chickpea area this year. About 14.40 lakh ha has been sown with chickpea which is 117% of target area set by state government for this year and about 1 lakh ha increase from the last year’s area of 13.44 lakh ha (Govt. of Maharashtra).  
Currently, harvesting of this important pulses crop has commenced. Major districts of Chickpea for this year can be seen in below figure.
In this report, we have collated the analysis carried out by the metGIS®, ground information and current weather conditions in several Chickpea growing districts of Maharashtra.
In Ahmednagar, the cumulative growth index of chickpea is 2287 when sown during 45th week of the year. The growth index indicates that the crop has almost matured. About 86.7 thousand ha area has been sown with the chickpea in the district this year which is about 109% of targeted area. Currently, maximum temperature is hovering around 36oC and minimum temperature is settling at around 14oC. During next seven days, light rainfall is expected in the district.

In Amravati, considering the sowing onwards 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of chickpea is 2469 which indicates full maturity of the crop.  As per the ground information, farmers have started harvesting of the crop. The district has achieved 100% of targeted area for this year with about 95 thousand ha area sown with chickpea. Currently, the day temperature is around 35oC and night temperature is around 21oC. WeatherSys predicts light rainfall in the district during next seven days.

In Buldhana, the cumulative growth index of chickpea is 2273 when sowing was started during 45th week of the year. According to growth index, the crop has reached at maturity stage. As per the ground information, farmers have already started harvesting of the crop. With the achievement of 146% of the targeted area, the chickpea has been sown in about 1 lakh ha area in the district. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 35oC and minimum temperature is around 21oC.  As per the meteogram, light rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.
In Latur, considering the sowing during 45th week of the year, the cumulative growth index of chickpea is 2396 which indicates maturity of the crop.  About 1.5 lakh ha area has been sown with the chickpea this year which is about 272% of the targeted area. Currently, the day temperature is around 35oC and night temperature is around 21oC. Light significant rainfall is likely in the district during next seven days.

In Osmanabad, the cumulative growth index of chickpea is 2482 when sowing was started during 45th week of the year. According to growth index, the crop has reached at maturity stage. As per the ground information, farmers have already started harvesting of the crop. With the achievement of 247% of the targeted area, the chickpea has been sown in about 1.31 lakh ha area in the district. The maximum temperature in the district is ranging around 35oC and minimum temperature is around 21oC.  As per the meteogram, light rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.
