Potato in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh contributes nearly 34 percent in India’s total potato production. Estimated 5.50 lakh ha area is under potato cultivation in the state. In the month of November 2015, the arrival of potato in UP was 1.65 lakh MT which was about 40 percent of all India arrival during the same period. Potato arrival during October 2015 was higher at 1.78 lakh MT. 

During November 2015, Agra, Hathras, Shikohabad, Kanpur (Grain) and Firozabad have been top 5 mandis of the state registering arrivals of  20,075; 11,670; 9,260; 8,055 and 7,238 tonnes respectively (total arrivals 56,298 MT in top 5 mandis).  In these top 5 mandis, Firozabad Mandi recorded lowest modal price of Rs 630/qntl while Agra Mandi witnessed the highest price of Rs 980/qntl.  At the national level, Agra Mandi was among top 5 mandis during November 2015.

During November 2014, Kanpur (Grain), Sirsaganj, Agra, Shikohabad and Hathras were top 5 mandis registering arrivals of 3,250; 3,030; 2,380; 1,880 and 1,050 tonnes respectively (total arrivals 11,590 MT in top 5 mandis).  Among these top 5 mandis, Agra had recorded lowest modal price of Rs 1,720/qntl for this period whereas highest price Rs 2,060/qntl recorded in Shikohabad Mandi.
