Slow Wheat Sowing in Gujarat

As per the State Government, wheat sowing has been delayed in Gujarat. Delayed sowing of Wheat is mainly attributed to less moisture content in the soil and relatively higher temperature in the State. Post monsoon rainfall (1st October onward) has been scanty by more than 80 percent less than normal rainfall. Till 3rd December, wheat sowing has been done in 2.82 lakh ha in irrigated area and 16300 ha in unirrigated area in the state. During last season, irrigated area under wheat sowing was 10.75 lakh ha while unirrigated area was 71400 ha.

Wheat sowing in Sabarkantha, Mahesana, Banaskantha and Patan districts in North Gujarat has registered 40400, 32100, 17700 and 17400 ha respectively till 3rd December. Total area covered in North Gujarat is about 1.31 lakh ha. Presently, day temperature is ranging around 32oC and night temperature is around 15oC in North Gujarat. On 10th December, light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur in some parts of North Gujarat.

In middle Gujarat, about 90800 ha area has been covered under wheat showing till 3rd December and major wheat growing districts like Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda and Dahod has sown in 34500, 26100, 11900 and 10200 ha respectively. Presently, day temperature is ranging around 33oC and night temperature is around 14oC in the middle Gujarat region. No significant rainfall is expected in middle Gujarat during next seven days.

In Saurashtra, wheat sowing has been completed in about 35400 ha. Wheat area in Surendranagar, Junagarh and Morbi have been 12700, 6300 and 5600 till 3rd December. The day temperature is ranging around 35oC and night temperature is around 14oC. During next seven days, light rainfall is expected in some parts of the region.

In South Gujarat, about 17500 ha irrigated and 4600 ha unirrigated area has covered under wheat sowing till 3rd December. Wheat sowing in Bharuch and Dang has been 13600 and 2500 ha respectively.  Currently, day temperature in South Gujarat is ranging around 33oC and night temperature is around 17oC. No significant rainfall is expected during next seven days in the region.
