Good Crop Growth in Chickpea in Rajasthan

Chickpea sowing in Rajasthan has achieved 81 percent of targeted area of 14.5 lakh ha for 2015-16 season.  As per the Department of Agriculture, chickpea sowing has been completed in 11.76 lakh ha till 7th December.  The GDD described below is calculated on the basis of considering week number 43(October 19) as starting of chickpea sowing.

In Bikaner, the GDD is 1032.2 and the crop is at flowering stage. Presently, temperature is ranging around 27oC maximum to 12oC minimum. It is observed that minimum temperature is slightly higher than normal minimum temperature. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days.

In Chittaurgarh, the GDD is 1142.9 and the crop is at flowering stage. The temperature is ranging between 28oC max to 15oC min. The minimum temperature is around 5oC higher than normal in the district. No significant rainfall is expected in the district during next seven days.

In Churu, the GDD for chickpea is 991.5 and crop stage is flowering. Current temperature is ranging around 26oC max and 12oC min. The minimum temperature is about 4oC higher than normal. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected in the district.

In Ganganagar, the GDD for chickpea is 991.2 and crop is at flowering stage. The temperature is around 24oC max and 11oC min. The minimum temperature is around 2oC higher than normal minimum temperature. As per meteogram, no significant rainfall is expected during next seven days.

In Hanumangarh, the GDD for chickpea is 1012.6 and crop is at flowering stage.  The temperature is around 24oC max and 10oC min. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected in the district.

In Jhunjhunun, the chickpea GDD is 1021.7 and crop is at flowering stage. As per the information obtained from the ground level, flowering has started in the crop which was sown during September-end to mid-October. However, some farmers are still sowing the crop. Presently, the temperature is around 27oC max and 10oC min. As per meteogram, no rainfall is expected during next seven days.

In Nagaur, the GDD for chickpea is 1041.2 and crop is at flowering stage. Field information also confirmed the same crop growth. Some farmers are still sowing the chickpea. Currently, the temperature is ranging around 27oC maximum to 12oC minimum. During next seven days, no rainfall is expected and weather will remain cool and dry.

With the above information, it is clear that despite deficient rainfall, chickpea growth in Rajasthan is good till now.
