Ginger Arrival Increased Slightly in November
Ginger is an
important crop of India generally used as spice on a large scale and for
preparation of medicines and confectionaries also. It is mostly grown in Kerala,
Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh,
Maharashtra and some parts of NE India. As per the estimate of Govt. of India,
area under Ginger cultivation in India is about 1.33 lakh ha during 2014-15 with
total production of about 6.55lakh MT. Ginger
requires a tropical or subtropical climate. The temperature ranging between 32oC
to 13oC and well distributed 1500-3000 mm rainfall are considered
favourable weather conditions for its optimum growth.
All India arrivals of Ginger
has been about 12114 MT during November this year. Manathavady (Kerala), Bara Bazar[Posta
Bazar] (West Bengal), Pune (Maharashtra), Nagpur (Maharashtra) and Aiginia(Odisha)
have been top 5 mandis registering arrivals of 3920, 2578, 971, 811 and 590
tonnes respectively (total arrivals 8870 MT in top 5 mandis) . In these top 5 mandis, Manathavady Mandi of
Kerala recorded lowest modal price of Rs 1400/qntl while Aiginia Mandi witnessed
highest price of Rs 7500/qntl.
While during the corresponding period in 2014,
total Ginger arrival was 12004 MT and Nagpur (Maharashtra), Manathavady (Kerala),
Bara Bazar[Posta Bazar] (West Bengal), Pune
(Maharashtra) and Kota [FV] (Rajasthan) were top 5 mandis registering arrivals
of 2692, 1259, 960, 827 and 559 tonnes respectively (total arrivals 6297 MT in
top 5 mandis). Among these top 5 mandis,
Manathavady had recorded lowest modal price of Rs 1300/qntl for this period
whereas highest price Rs 3750/qntl recorded in Bara Bazar[Posta Bazar] Mandi of
West Bengal.
It is observed that the
arrival of Ginger commodity during November this year has slightly increased as
compared to last year. We at WeatherSys

During next seven days, scattered moderate to
heavy rainfall is expected in Peninsular India. Although, the rainfall
intensity is likely to reduce in later part of the week. Light to moderate
rainfall would occur in many parts of North-West and Central India on 10th
and 11th December.
