Status of Wheat Sowing in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is among top four wheat producing states. Presently, average temperature in the state are ranging around 33oC which are expected to drop significantly during last week of November. Wheat sowing normally starts when temperature come down to around 23oC to 25oC. High temperature affects wheat germination adversely. We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast on day to day basis. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report, we have collected ground information of Wheat sowing status in several districts of Madhya Pradesh. 

In Gwalior, farmers are planning to commence wheat sowing from fourth week of November when temperatures are expected to drop a few degrees.  Most popular varieties in the district are DBW-71, Pusa-372, HD-2967, HD2985 and Sarbati Sonara. Presently, temperature in the district is around 32oC which is the main reason of late sowing alongwith less soil moisture. 

In Shivpuri, wheat sowing is likely to begin after November-end. Mostly, farmers grow HD2009, KWR-108, Lok-1 and Sharbati Sonara varieties. Temperature in the district are ranging around 30oC and it is expected to cool down during fourth week of November. The meteogram suggests no rainfall during this week. 

In Hosangabad, sowing of wheat is expected to start during mid-November. Varieties like GW322, GW273 are popular among farmers.  Currently, temperature are around 32oC which is expected to come down upto 27oC from fourth week of November. WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days. 

In Vidisha, wheat sowing has started from last week of October. Mostly, farmers are preferring varieties like HI-1544 (Purna), Sharbati Sonara. Light rainfall on 28th and 29th October has improved the soil moisture but the temperature are still persisting around 31oC and it is expected to drop little more during fourth week of this month. 

In Ujjain, farmers has started sowing wheat from mid-October despite high temperature. Farmers are preferring varieties like Lok-1, Purna and some Pusa varieties.  Presently, the district is witnessing temperature around 33oC. During last week of November, the temperature are expected cool down few degrees. 

In Harda, wheat sowing has started from mid-October and farmers are preferring varieties like GW322 and GW273 for sowing. Temperature in the district are ranging around 34oC which is likely to drop few degrees during last week of November.
