Recent Showers Boosted Mustard Sowing in MP
Madhya Pradesh is
among top three Mustard producing states.
During 2014-15 Rabi Season, Mustard was sown in about 7.33 lakh ha area
achieving about 86 percent of targeted 8.5 lakh ha. Presently, temperature has
dropped and soil moisture has increased due to recent rains in many parts of
the state. We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather
and weather forecast on day to day basis. We also gather ground information on
the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts. In this report, we have collected ground
information of Mustard sowing status in several districts of Madhya Pradesh.
In Shivpuri,
farmers have started sowing of Mustard from mid-October. Mostly, farmers use
local varieties of black mustard. Recent rain has brought down the temperature
to 25oC today. As per
WeatherSys, light rainfall would occur over the district during next one day
and weather is likely to be cooler and dry during subsequent six days.
In Gwalior, Mustard sowing has started
during current week. Popularly, local
varieties of Black and Yellow mustard are being sown. There has been moderate
rainfall in the district today which played important role in cooling down the
temperature and significant increase in soil moisture. Light rainfall is
expected tomorrow and subsequent days of the week will be cooler and dry.
In Sheopur,
sowing of Mustard has started from mid-October.
Mostly, farmers are sowing Desi varieties of Black Mustard. Temperature
have dropped to 26oC due to recent cloudy weather with light
rainfall. As per meteogram, cool and dry
days are likely during next seven days.
In Morena,
Mustard sowing is expected to commence from first week of November. Farmers mostly prefer Desi varieties of
Mustard. Temperatures in the district are ranging around 28oC. It is
cloudy weather with very light rain today.

In Datia,
farmers, who have irrigation sources, have started Mustard sowing from second
week of October and rest of the farmers have started sowing now. At present, cloudy weather with light
rainfall has brought down the temperature to 25oC and significantly
increased the soil moisture. WeatherSys predicts very light rainfall tomorrow
while subsequent six days are expected to remain dry.
