Mustard Sowing Commenced in Haryana

Haryana is one of the major Mustard growing states.  For Rabi Season 2015-16, about 6 lakh ha area is targeted under total oilseed cultivation in Haryana by the State government. We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast on day to day basis. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report, we have collected ground information of Mustard sowing status in several districts of Haryana. 

In Bhiwani, sowing of Mustard has started from mid-October. Farmers are preferring varieties like RH-30, RH-8812, Rani, Shaktivardhak etc. There has been no rainfall during last 10 days and presently temperatures are ranging above 30oC. This is why farmers are using their own irrigation sources.  WeatherSys predicts no rainfall during next seven days. 

In Mahendragarh, farmers have started sowing Mustard from mid-October.  Varieties like Coral-32 are being preferred by Farmers. As there has been no rainfall from last 20 days or so, government has provided water through canals etc. for irrigating their fields. The meteogram generated by using metGIS_Agro predicts no rainfall during next seven days. 

In Sirsa, Mustard sowing started from beginning of October. Laxmi (RH-8812) is one of the most popular varieties which is being sown. Farmers in the district would start wheat sowing from November. Presently, farmers are using their own irrigation sources to keep the soil moisture. As per meteogram, light to moderate rainfall is likely over the district on 25th -26th October. 

In Hisar, sowing of Mustard has started from mid-October. Presently, only resourceful farmers who have their own irrigation facility are sowing. Mostly, farmers are preferring RH-30 variety of Mustard. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected and weather is likely to be hot and dry.
