Madhya Pradesh : Chickpea Sowing Commenced
Chickpea (Chana) is a major pulse
crop cultivated and consumed in India. Major
Chickpea growing states are Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and
Rajasthan. During 2014-15 Rabi season, Chickpea has accounted for about 45% of
total pulses produced in the country. With the contribution of about 87% in
total pulse export during 2014 (Apr-Dec), Chickpea was the leading pulse exported.
Farmers have started sowing of Chickpea in
Madhya Pradesh. Currently, weather conditions for sowing in Madhya Pradesh are
good as temperature is ranging between 24oC to 30oC and soil
moisture is also present. Frost and excessive rainfall after sowing and at flowering
stage could affect yield of Chickpea adversely. During 2014-15 season, about 31.53
lakh MT production from 29.39 lakh ha Chickpea acreage was estimated with
1073kg/ha yield in Madhya Pradesh. We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth
