Status of Arhar in Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is one of the major Pulses producing state.  During 2013-14, Arhar production in Madhya Pradesh was estimated 0.46 MT from about 4.64 lakh ha area.  It is expected that increase in MSP including Rs. 200 bonus/qntl for this Kharif season will increase total acreage of Arhar in Madhya Pradesh. We at WeatherSys monitor Arhar crop growth on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast.

We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report we have collected the ground information from several districts in Madhya Pradesh and analysed actual vis-à-vis ideal weather requirements of the crop.

In Betul, the crop is at flowering stage.  Farmers are applying insecticide chlorpyrifos to control Caterpillars which have been reported in some places of the district. Though, on the whole, actual rainfall has been meeting the requirements of the crop, it is observed from below chart that during last two crop-weeks actual rainfall has fallen short of the ideal requirements.  Farmers are expecting lower production as compared to previous kharif season.  As per meteogram, weather is likely to be hot and dry in next six days and moderate rainfall on seventh day.

In Jabalpur, the crop is at flowering stage. Currently, there is no complaint about any pest or disease. Actual rainfall during last two Crop-weeks (36 and 37) could not meet the required quantity. Moderate rainfall is required in coming weeks for better crop growth.  However, weather is likely to be hot and dry and no significant rainfall is expected during next seven days.

In Narsimhapur, the crop is at flowering stage. Leaf roller insect has been noticed in some places in the district.  Farmers are applying insecticides to control it.  Though, district has received good rainfall this season, last two crop-weeks have fallen short of ideal rainfall requirement.  Farmers are expecting lower production as compared to last season. As per meteogram generated by using metGIS_Agro®, weather is likely to be hot and dry with no significant rainfall during next five days.
