Soybean Status in Maharashtra

At national level the Soybean acreage is estimated higher by about 27 lakh ha in 2015 Kharif Season as compared to Kharif Season 2014. Out of this, Maharashtra alone has a share of 18.20 lakh ha with total acreage reaching 31.59 lakh ha (Solvent Extractors’ Association of India as on July 27th July).  Generally, in most of the districts of the Maharashtra, actual rainfall has met the ideal rainfall requirements in all the stages of Soybean crop. We, at WeatherSys, monitor real time weather and crop status for all major soybean growing districts alongwith ground information.  In this report, we have gathered inputs from several districts of Maharashtra.

In Sangli, the crop is in pod formation stage. The district has been received more rainfall than required for Soybean throughout this monsoon season.  In case of continued rainfall in near future, the crop would be affected adversely in the form of falling of pods and flowers.  There was moderate rainfall yesterday. Moderate rainfall is expected during next seven days.

In Buldhana, the crop is in pod formation stage in most of the places. There was moderate rainfall over the district yesterday. Some farmers reported diseases such as Phytopthora on their crops. Temperature rise could have intensified incidences of diseases in the crop. Farmers are planning to switch from Soybean to other crops from next season. Light rainfall is likely over the district during next seven days.

In Amravati, there has been moderate rainfall in last three days. The crop is in pod formation stage. In several places in the district, Fungal and Yellow Mosaic diseases have been reported in the crop. As Whitefly transmit yellow mosaic virus disease, their control is critical. Infected plants should be removed and buried outside field. Weather is likely to be clear next week except light rainfall on 16th September.
