Prolonged Dry Spell to Affect Guar Prospect in Rajasthan
Guar
is an important exchequer commodity of India.
During the FY 2014-15, about 665233 MT Guar was exported which valued
about Rs. 9,47,990 lakh. Rajasthan is
the major producer of this rainfed crop. During this Kharif Season, Guar has
been sown in more than 39 lakh ha area in Rajasthan which is about 98 percent
of targetted 40 lakh ha area and about 23 percent increased from about 32 lakh
ha area in 2014. Though, Rajasthan has
received normal to excessive rainfall this Monsoon season, dry spell in recent
four to six week could affect the crop yield.
We at WeatherSys monitor guar
crop growth on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather
forecast. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and
associated weather in major growing districts.
In Jaipur, the crop is in pod formation stage. Bacterial blight has
been reported in some places in the district.
Farmers are applying Copper Oxychloride to control this disease which is
proving effective. There has been no
rainfall for more than last 25 days.
Farmers are using their own irrigation sources but those who do not have
irrigation facility, their crop is stressed.
Farmers want government to take appropriate action for the drought some
conditions. As per meteogram, no
rainfall is expected during next seven days and weather is likely to be hot and
dry.

data and ideal weather requirements of the crop.
In Jhunjhunun, the crop is free
from disease and pest. Harvesting of the
crop would start from next month.
Prolonged dry spell may affect the yield of the crop. There has been no rainfall for more than last
10 days. Farmers are using their own
irrigation sources. Weather is likely to
be hot and dry during next seven days.
In Jodhpur,
bacterial blight has been reported in some places. Application of pesticides is
not proving much effective. Due to no
rainfall from crop week 34 to 37 (17th Aug to 7th Sept),
many farmers have lost their crops. Farmers with their own irrigation
facilities managed to keep their crop alive.
During next seven days, weather is likely to be hot and dry with clear
sky.
In Bikaner, the crop is in pod
formation stage. However, crop in water stressed field is still in flowering
stage. In several places where
irrigation facility is not available, the crop growth is adversely affected due
to dry spell from last four weeks. This will ultimately result into lower
yield. As per meteogram, weather is likely to be hot and dry during next seven
days.
In Ganganagar, the crop is in
maturity stage and many farmers have already started harvesting their crop. In
this district, sowing of the Guar was started in the month of June. Its usage as a vegetable has stopped now.
Now, there is no requirement of rain. As per meteogram, the weather is expected
to be hot and dry with clear sky during next seven days.

days and forecast for next 7 days including soil temperature and ET. Rainfall
for last 120 days is also available if clicked with specific crop.
In Barmer,
flowering has not started yet due to deficient rainfall. Comparatively, the district has witnessed
prolonged dry spell of about more than 6 crop weeks. Farmers are not expecting
to recover even their input cost from this crop. A good spell of rainfall could
bring relief to them. During next seven
days, weather is likely to be hot and dry with clear sky.
