Mung Status in Maharashtra

Mung is major pulse crop in Maharashtra.   During 2014-15, total Mung acreage was estimated 319 thousand ha in Maharashtra (IIPR).  We at WeatherSys monitor Mung crop growth on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report we have collected the ground information from several districts in Maharashtra.

In Amravati, seed formation has started in Mung.  Yellow Mosaic disease has been observed in some places in the district. In this disease the pods become thin and curl upwards. Farmers are using insecticides.  Light rainfall occurred during last few days will benefit the crop growth.  According to meteogram, moderate rainfall is expected on 17th and 18th September.

In Aurangabad, harvesting of Mung is being done. Some farmers, who have completed Mung harvesting, are planning for next season crop which are Wheat or Jawar.  In case of good rainfall in coming days, farmers will sow Wheat otherwise they will grow Jwar.  There was light rainfall during last 10 days and moderate rainfall is likely over the district during next three days.
Meteogram produced by metGIS_Agro® showing actual weather data for last 10 days and forecast for next 7 days including soil temperature and ET. Rainfall for last 120 days is also available if clicked with specific crop.

In Washim, Mung crop is at seed formation stage.  It is expected that after 20 days it will be ready for harvesting. For good seed formation, a good rainfall is required. There was light rainfall on 7th and 9th September and as per meteogram forecast, light to moderate rainfall is expected on 17th and 18th September.
