Harvesting of Groundnut Started in Parts of Gujarat

As forecasted by WeatherSys in its report of September 16 (www.weatherindia.net/weatherReport_16sep.jsp), Gujarat has received 3-4 days incessant rainfall over its several districts.   After a long dry spell, this rainfall proved to be savior for Kharif crop in the State. Obviously, deficient or no rainfall during 5-6 weeks at critical plant growth stages like flowering and pod formation will affect the yield of Groundnut in the state. Gujarat has received normal accumulated rainfall (502.5 mm) till date and about 15 percent (76.1mm) rainfall occurred during 17 to 23 September 2015 (IMD).

We at WeatherSys monitor crop growth vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast on day to day basis. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report, we have collected ground information of Groundnut crop status in several districts of Gujarat.

In Rajkot, Groundnut harvesting has commenced.  Due to deficient rainfall at the time of plant growth, farmers are expecting low production as compared to last year. However, the district received moderate rainfall during last 10 days. During next seven days, weather is expected to be hot and dry with clear sky in the district.

In Bhavnagar, the crop is at maturity stage and its harvesting is expected to commence in mid-October. Moderate rainfall occurred over many places in the district during last 10 days will prove beneficial for the crop. However, Small seed size in groundnut is being reported which will affect the total production. As per meteogram generated by using metGIS_Agro®, no rainfall is expected during next seven days and weather is likely to be hot and dry.
