Cotton Status in Vidharbha Region
As per
Cotton Association of India, with 78.5 lakh bales production Maharashtra is
second largest producer of Cotton during 2014-15. This monsoon season Vidharbha
region has received 83 percent of normal rainfall.

ground information of the crop status and associated weather in several
districts in Vidharbha region of Maharashtra.
In Akola, flowering in the crop has not started yet. Farmers have
preferred varieties like AKH081, AHH468 in the district. The crop is healthy and no insect or disease
has been reported. There was moderate rainfall received in the district on 7th September and as per meteogram, light rain is expected during next seven days.

In
Yavatmal, flowering has started and
no insect or disease has been noticed in the crop. Mostly AHH-468 and AKH081 varieties has been
chosen by the farmers. There was a light rainfall on 7th September.
As per the meteogram generated by using metGIS_Agro®, no significant
rainfall is expected during next seven days in the district.
In Buldhana, the
crop is in flowering stage. Farmers have preferred mostly desi, H-4, L147
varieties of cotton in the district. Farmers are expecting low yield as
compared to last year due to deficient rainfall. There is a requirement of one
or two spells of rain for better crop growth. Presently, no insect or disease
has been noticed in the crop. Light rainfall is likely over the district during
next seven days.

In Amravati,
flowering in the cotton crop has started 10 days back. Mostly Desi 8401, H4 varieties were preferred
by the farmers of the district. Whiteflies attack in the crop has been reported
in several place in the district. Farmers are applying insecticides such as
Monocrotophos to control the infestation but the menace is still persisting.
Moderate rainfall was received on 7th September. However, more rain
is required for good crop growth. Barring 15th September, no
significant rainfall is expected over the district during next seven days.
