Castor in Rajasthan: Update

In Rajasthan, Castor acreage was targeted 2Lakh ha for this Kharif season of which 1.63 Lakh ha (82 percent) has been achieved till August 20, 2015 (DOA, Rajasthan). During previous Kharif season total acreage under the castor crop in Rajasthan was about 1.40 Lakh ha. During this Monsoon season, Rajasthan has received normal rainfall.  The crop has tolerated 6 to 7 rainfall deficient crop-weeks.

We at WeatherSys monitor Castor crop growth on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast. We also gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in major growing districts.  In this report we have collected the ground information of Castor crop from several districts in Rajasthan.

In Jalore, there has been no significant rainfall from last one month.  Rainfall occurred in the district during previous 6 crop weeks (3rd Aug to 7th Sept) have fallen short of what is ideally required for the crop. No pest or disease has been reported till now. There is requirement of good rainfall.  WeatherSys predicts light to moderate rainfall during 20th to 23rd September which will help the production.
