Castor in Rajasthan: Update
In Rajasthan, Castor acreage
was targeted 2Lakh ha for this Kharif season of which 1.63 Lakh ha (82 percent)
has been achieved till August 20, 2015 (DOA,
Rajasthan). During previous Kharif season total acreage under the castor
crop in Rajasthan was about 1.40 Lakh ha. During this Monsoon season, Rajasthan
has received normal rainfall. The crop
has tolerated 6 to 7 rainfall deficient crop-weeks.
We at WeatherSys monitor Castor crop growth
on day to day basis vis-à-vis the actual weather and weather forecast. We also
gather ground information on the status of the crop and associated weather in
major growing districts. In this report
we have collected the ground information of Castor crop from several districts
in Rajasthan.
In Jalore, there has
been no significant rainfall from last one month. Rainfall occurred in the district during
previous 6 crop weeks (3rd Aug to 7th Sept) have fallen
short of what is ideally required for the crop. No pest or disease has been
reported till now. There is requirement of good rainfall. WeatherSys predicts light to moderate
rainfall during 20th to 23rd September which will help
the production.

In Hanumangarh,
flowering in the crop is expected after two weeks. Water stress on leaves of
the crop plants has been observed due to long dry spell. No incidence of pest or disease in the crop
has been reported till now. A good rainfall is required for better crop
growth. Light rainfall is expected over
the district during later half of the coming week.
In Jodhpur, the crop is at flowering stage from last 15 days. There
has been no rainfall in the district from last 20 days. A good rainfall in near future will be
beneficial for better crop growth. The
crop is free from any pest or disease. WeatherSys predicts light to moderate
rainfall on 21st and 22nd September.

In Ganganagar, Castor crop is in flowering
stage and free from any pest or disease.
There has been no rainfall in the district from last 25 days. Though
Castor is known for its drought tolerant ability, prolonged dry spell could
restrict plant vigor or resulted into slow growth. A good spell of rainfall is required for
better crop growth in the district. As per meteogram, light to moderate
rainfall is likely over the district from 20th to 22nd
September.
