Status of Soybean Crop in Madhya Pradesh



The risks of crop cultivation in rainfed conditions is one of the major constraints in its production. Soybean is no exception. As of now, in this monsoon season, West Madhya Pradesh has received excess rainfall whereas normal rainfall has been experienced in East Madhya Pradesh.  This report contains the field information of Soybean crop in several districts of Madhya Pradesh and effects of weather on this crop.

In Bhopal, Harda and Hoshangabad districts, which are under western part of Madhya Pradesh have received about 40 percent excess rainfall this season till now and the soybean crop has attained flowering stage in these districts. The GDD for the crop in Harda is about 963.8. No adverse effect has been observed in the crop in Harda and Hoshangabad whereas in Bhopal, due to waterlogging in the fields, ‘Illi’ were noticed. Farmers are using pesticides to control it.

Jabalpur district in eastern Madhya Pradesh has received normal rainfall till now.  Soybean crop is in flowering stage.  Due to waterlogging in the fields, leaf borers have been observed in the crop. Farmers are using Solomon (beta-cyfluthrin 90 g/litre +imidacloprid 210 g/litre) with fume to control it.

As per meteogram, a weather forecasting tool of WeatherSys, Harda, Hoshangabad and Bhopal are likely to witness heavy to moderate rains in next week while heavy rain is expected tomorrow and clear weather in subsequent six days over Jabalpur.
