Sesame (Till) in Rajasthan: Fairly Good Crop Expected

WeatherSys has gathered ground information of Sesame (Till) crop and associated weather status in Rajasthan. Sowing of Kharif Sesame in Rajasthan started in the beginning of June and lasted till July end and harvesting period is mid-October-November. The total area under the crop in the state was about 3.61 lakh ha during 2013-14 and total production was about 0.72 lakh tonnes with the yield of 199 kg/ha. At national level, during 2012-13, about 3 lakh tonnes Sesame seed were exported which was about 33 percent of total oilseed export with the total value of Rs. 2881.54 crore.  

In Jodhpur, Sesame sowing started in the month of May. Good rainfall distribution this monsoon has been beneficial to the crop growth and farmers are expecting good production. Presently, the crop height is about 20 percent of the height of the matured crop.  No insect or any disease in this crop has been noticed as of now.  There was moderate rainfall on 15th and 16th August in the district. As per the meteogram generated using metGIS_Agro ®, the weather in the district is likely to be hot and humid with clear sky during next seven days.

The Sesame crop in Baran is in flowering stage and the height of the crop is about 18 inches.  Farmers are using pesticides to remove any possibility of insects during flowering stage. Rains at this stage will affect the crop adversely as flowers would fall due to rain. No significant rainfall is expected during next seven days in the district.

The sowing of Sesame in Tonk district started from 25th June. The crop is healthy as there has been good rainfall in the district this monsoon season and there is no immediate need of rainfall presently.  It is expected that harvesting will start during Diwali festival.  There was moderate rainfall on 15th and 16th August. As per meteogram, hot and humid days with clear sky expected during next seven days.
