Recent Rains in Maharashtra Improved Prospects of Crops like Sugarcane and Soybean



WeatherSys has gathered actual field information from Pune and Sangli districts of Maharashtra.  In Pune, harvesting of onion started as the prices in the mandis are high.  The stock of onion from last season is also arriving in mandis. Potato crop will be ready for harvesting after 45 days. Only ITL variety of potato used commercially for Chips is being harvested.  Sowing of maize started from July when there was good monsoon rainfall in the district. Sugarcane is also on vegetative stage. Light to moderate rainfall is being witnessed in the district on regular intervals. In Sangli, there has been continuous light to moderate rainfall from last 4 days. Flowering in Soybean crop has also started in the district.

It has been observed that despite light to moderate rainfall in Pune and Sangli districts of Maharashtra in regular intervals recently, total rainfall as compared to normal rainfall has been lower by about 25 percent in Pune and about 40 percent in Sangli. Good rainfall will benefit crops especially Sugarcane. As per the meteogram forecast, no significant rainfall is likely in both the districts during next seven days.
