Prospects of Rainfall over the Weekend Brings Hope to Farmers of Bihar State
The grassroot information of crops
and actual weather has been collected from Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, West
Champaran, Katihar and Sheohar districts of Bihar. Major points are as follow:
In Muzaffarpur, there has been no
rainfall from last 15 days and due to this event, transplanting of paddy is
delayed. The farmers are ready for sowing of vegetables like cauliflowers,
cabbage and broccoli while some farmers have already started sowing from
mid-July.

Transplanting of paddy started from
25th July in Darbhanga. However, low rainfall delayed transplanting,
farmers are cultivating maize and pulses like Moong, Arhar, Masoor which are
one month old now. Recently, flowering in Moong has started in the district.
Sowing of vegetables like Guards, Potato and Brinjal have started few days
back.
In West Champaran district, paddy
transplanting have started from 10th July. Maize crop is now one
month old. There has been no rainfall since last 10 days.
Maize and paddy fields in Katihar
district have dried as there has been no rainfall since last 15 days. The
adverse effect of deficient rainfall are being witnessed in the form of low
growth in crops.
There has been moderate rainfall in
Sheohar recently which is beneficial for pulses like moong. Growth of moong crop is
normal in the district as it has attained flowering stage.

In conclusion, we can say that
deficient rainfall is affecting crops adversely in Bihar. Due to this not only transplanting of paddy
is being delayed but growth of crops like maize is restricted. In long term, the yield of crops could be
less as expected by farmers. As per the Meteogram generated through metGIS,
light to moderate rainfall is expected over many places in aforesaid districts
during 7th August to 10th August. This
prospect brings hope to farmers in Bihar.
