Onion Prices More than Double in August 2015 over August 2014 in Main Mandis of Maharashtra
In August 2015, total arrivals of
Onion in top 10 mandis of Maharashtra (Table 1) was 29556 MTs as against
corresponding arrivals totaling 11058 MTs in 2014 (Table 2).

prices this year is more than double as compared to prices last year. Reason
could be restricted release by farmers or stockists in anticipation of further
rise.
It
is noteworthy that during 15th July to 20th August 2015,
Lasagaon area of Maharashtra received a cumulative rainfall of paltry 98
mm. Marathwada region where onions are
grown have been rain deficient to extent of 46 %.
