Maize Harvesting Started In Uttar Pradesh

We at WeatherSys have gathered the ground information about the present status of Maize crop in Mainpuri, Bulandshahar, Aligarh and Etah districts of Uttar Pradesh. UP as a whole has received nearly 30 percent less rainfall than normal this season till now. 

In Mainpuri, the Maize crop is in flowering stage for the farmers who are using their irrigation sources. Rian dependent crop will have poor yields. During next seven days, no significant rainfall is expected in the district.

In Bulandshahar, harvesting of Maize has started. After harvest, farmers are planning to sow sesamum.  There was moderate rainfall on 18th August. Weather is likely to be hot and dry during next seven days. 

Aligarh district has received rainfall this season on regular intervals and farmers have started harvesting Maize, though, harvesting is delayed a little bit.  After harvesting Maize, most of the farmers will sow Black mustard.  There has been continuous rains in last 4-5 days. In Etah, Maize crop is in final stage and its harvesting will start from September. Weather is likely to be mainly cloudy with hot and humid days during next seven days. 

Maize, known as the queen of cereals, has wide adaptability under varied agro-climatic conditions. Annually, Maize crop is grown thrice i.e. Kharif, Rabi and Summer seasons where about 80 percent of the crop is harvested from Kharif season.  During 2013-14, as estimated by GOI, Maize area in Uttar Pradesh was about 0.74 m ha which is 7.85 percent of total area at national level whereas production in the state was about 1.24 mt which is about 5 percent of total production of national level.
