Good Rainfall Needed for Basmati Rice in Haryana

The ground information on status of Basmati Rice has been gathered by WeatherSys from Sonipat, Panipat and Karnal districts of Haryana.  The main varieties of Basmati Rice grown in these districts are CSR 30, 370, PUSA 1121 and PUSA 1509. Light rainfall in all three districts experienced on 8th -9th August is not sufficient for paddy crop. The crop plants are about 18 to 24 inches high now.  The crop monitoring tool in www.weatherindia.net is showing Basmati Rice GDD value of 2039.8, 1964.3 and 2278.4 in Sonipat, Panipat and Karnal respectively.  As per the GDD, the flowering in the crop should have started in all the three districts.

As required by both Basmati and Non-aromatic rice crops, no significant rainfall has been witnessed in Sonipat and Panipat since 25th June.  However, good rainfall was registered in Karnal on 12th and 18th July which proved beneficial for the crop growth.  As per meteogram forecast, no significant rainfall is likely over these three district during 14th to 17th August.
