CURRENT STATUS OF MAIZE CROP IN UP
Primarily, maize is kharif
crop in India which is sown just before monsoon. However, the crop is grown in
entire India, it is predominantly cultivated in North Indian states like Uttar
Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar and Punjab.

In Mainpuri, the height of the crop is about 24 inches. Moderate
rainfall at regular intervals during last one month was not sufficient for the
maize crop. The GDD value is currently at 1814 for the crop in the district
which demonstrates healthy crop. The water deficiency resulted dried upper
leaves of the plants were seen in pockets.
Heavy to moderate rain is expected over the district during next 3-4
days which could improve crop health.
In Kannauj, there has been moderate rainfall during last 3 days. The maize crop is about 24 inches now and cob
formation would start in September end.
The GDD value is 1088 for the crop in the district which demonstrates
late sowing. Farmers felt a good rainfall would be good for crop growth. God
has heard them and moderate rainfall is expected during next 2-3 days.
In Hardoi, there has been no significant rainfall from last 20 days.
The maize crop in the district is about 12 inches high which indicates low
growth rate due to water deficiency. The GDD is 1116 for the crop in the
district. Meteogram indicates moderate rainfall throughout this week.
In Aligarh, good rainfall has been experienced in this monsoon season
till now. Moderate rainfall last week is
beneficial for the crop. Presently,
height of the crop is about 30 inches which indicates good crop growth. The GDD
value for the crop is 991 in the district. Farmers are using pesticides Super
Sakti – Fenvalerate to remove insects as crop is in flowering stage. As per the meteogram, the district would
witness moderate rains in coming 3-4 days.
In Bareilly, sowing of maize was done about 45 days ago. The district
has witnessed good rainfall on regular intervals in this season which resulted
into good crop growth. The cob formation has started a week ago and probably
harvesting would start in August end.
Moderate rainfall is likely over the district in next week, suggests
meteogram.
In Bulandshahar, the maize crop is about 2 months old and cob
formation has started. The GDD value is 1523 for the crop in the district.
However, the district has been receiving less rainfall though on regular
intervals, it does not meet the requirement for proper growth of maize in the
district. Moderate rainfall is likely over the district in next 3-4 days.
